Hello! My name is Emelia Prince Ruyle and I am starting this blog as a way to share my fashion creations, passions, explorations, and inspirations. I am a 20 year old Apparel Design and Fashion Merchandising double major at the University of Delaware. This year I have a break from my design classes so hopefully I have more time to begin exploring the social media world of fashion and art. I have created a tumblr: EXPLORE as a visual inspiration wall that I would love for you to check out as well. I express my creativity through my fashion designs and my daily dress. My family and travel experiences have had the most influences on my life, I have just recently returned from 7 weeks interning in Hong Kong and will be traveling to Paris this winter to study for 6 weeks. Both of my parents are freelance artists who have inspired me my entire life to find my passion and never give up on it. Growing up I was encouraged to express myself through many forms of art- music, dance, acting, etc. but the main thing that stuck with me through the years is my love for fashion. My mother had a childrens clothing store in NYC for the first 5 years of my life, where she designed and made all of the garments, which allowed me to wear basically whatever I wanted by having her make me numerous dresses and outfits that I would design as even a toddler. She is also a costume designer and I grew up coming with her to costume fittings and clothing stores. As I grew up she taught me how to sew my own clothes and I began designing and making numerous garments for myself.
Passion for Fashion
Appearance is such a huge part of how people can learn more about others, and it's done with out even having to say a word. I think this is what makes fashion so empowering and why it is so important in the world. Self-expression is necessary for everybody and fashion provides the perfect platform for it. I want to work in the fashion industry to express not only myself but to give others the chance to express themselves.
My Style:
This silk dress was made by my grandmother in the 60's for herself (the sculpture in the first picture is actually of my grandma. My grandpa is a sculptor- he made it of her when they were in college and it was the first sculpture of a person he ever made), the dress was then passed down to my mom and is now mine! It is a simple shift dress but the bold colors and pattern make it unique and special. I love bright color combinations, patterned fabrics, and hints of sparkle so this outfit is the perfect representation of my personal style. I paired this dress with a rhinestone necklace from Urban Outfitters and Pewter colored pumps from Aldo.
