Under my tree

I felt Christmas sprang up on me so quickly this year.. Moving back home, preparing for Paris and going into NYC almost every other day the past week it was a hectic Christmas eve of crafting & wrapping presents until 4 am, with a break of watching It's A Wonderful Life for the first time and facetiming with my best friend who has just traveled to Panama with her family to visit her brother in the Peace Corps.  I am very happy to be home with my parents and thankful for not only the gifts they gave me today but the gifts they give me everyday no matter how large or small.  With many pretty presents like pearls and perfume, practical things for Paris like tour books and LOTS of black clothing, and silly gifts like Handerpants and earmuffs (that I actually wore today and loved even though goofy looking) I have had a great day receiving and also loved giving my gifts- mostly made up of photos displayed in a variety of ways.

Under my tree circa 1997

I designed my first ever outfit when I was 5 years old... A dark forest green gingham jacket and skirt with white fake fur trim.  It was my dream ice skating outfit and the only thing I wanted for Christmas.  My amazing talented mother made my dreams come true that year and made it herself, also getting a pair of ice skates!  I went outside of my grandma's house in New Hampshire right away to "skate" on the frozen puddles in the driveway.

sweater weather

Still in the early weeks of winter, crisp fall weather is quickly changing and dropping into the frigid forty's...the ultimate sweater weather
Sweaters are great because there are an infinite amount of styles that can be found at all price ranges.   They're easy to throw on and off, travel well with no wrinkles, enhance your outfit with trendy prints and details and are oh so cozy.
Look for a sweater with a funky pattern or special silhouette to spice up your winter weather outfit!

throwback thanksgiving thursday

Happy Thanksgiving, hope it was full of good company and delicious treats!
I got Pumpkin when I was 8 years old, a time when I was completely obsessed with getting a puppy, (oh wait I still am).  One day after school my parents FINALLY took me to a rescue dog shelter to see what was available and Pumpkin happened to be there, it was love at first sight and I was sure that he was the dog for us.  The owner told us that another family had come in earlier and was interested, she would let us know if they decided not to take him.  Low and behold that other family was my neighbors.  I was completely devastated and jealous when they came home later that night with him and cried for a good 48 hours.  Within the week they realized Pumpkin and their other dog were not the best playmates and they offered Pumpkin to us- a major moment in my life, I got the dog of my dreams!  Pumpkin was a rescue dog from the Bronx who was kept in a cardboard box yearlong.  This sweetheart of a dog passed away two years ago on Thanksgiving morning.  Today will forever be a day I look back on the overjoy I felt receiving him and all the amazing times we had over the years as he became a part of the family.
Thanks Punk
Today and everyday I am thankful for my two amazing parents who have supported me through every single decision & opportunity in my life, given me the chance to travel and explore as much as possible and inspire me with their continuous hard and artistic work.
I am thankful for my family full of artists, teachers and creators.
I am thankful for the amazing, strong, smart and world traveling friends I was lucky to find growing up in Nyack.
I am thankful for UDel giving me my crazy, supportive and loving roommates, my incredible boyfriend and sorority filled with ladies I respect and love more every day.
I am thankful for all the opportunities and risks that have come my way, the travels I've had, the tough times that made me stronger, the people I've met and most importantly I am thankful & hopeful for a bright future ahead.

Be thankful for the time you're given to be happy, free, creative, powerful, give back, learn and make the most of it.  See the best in those around you and see the best in yourself.
Give as much as you can.

Hopefully everyone is able to spend some time home with their families & enjoyed a great turkey lurkey day!

color your world

Todays look consists of a colorfully striped sweater I bought at a thrift store probably up to 6 years ago.. It's a little crazy, but so comfy, was super cheap and very unique.  I paired this with grey subtle acid wash jeans and my new black boots I received from DSW yesterday!  My new Steve Madden turquoise bag matched perfectly and helped to brighten the outfit even more, along with a rhinestone chain necklace from Urban Outfitters, Marc Jacobs Watch, and beaded bracelets from a local shop in Delaware.

**Side note:  Shopping at thrift stores is a great way to save money and find special pieces.  Along with this sweater I've gotten all of my favorite plaid shirts from thrift stores.. I also found a beautiful beaded blouse in perfect condition at a local store last sumer which I researched to find was originally $100 and I got it for around $15.  Consignment shopping is also a great way to find unique items at a fraction of the price, typically designer too!  Both provide a great way to recycle clothing, so if you have time to go through your closet over the holidays, don't throw them out!  You can drop them off at a local Consignment shop and hopefully make some cash (I just picked up a $100 check today!) or donate to a thrift shop (which is where I bring everything consignment stores won't take or can't sell)!

This Months Purchases:

Although I have been unable to post in the last month I did find a little time to shop & de-stress from school work..  In order to keep my spirits high I was continuously drawn to bright jewel colors of turquoise, magenta, reds and greens.
Old Navy tunicsH&M burgundy bagsimilar Steve Madden tote (one pictured sold out), Urban Outfitters stud braceletCoconuts boots, H&M colored destressed jeans (not available online, but THE BEST jeans I now own- check out your store for them!), Nordstrom necklaces (unavailable online)

As the temperature drops so does the frequency of color in fashion.  Be bold this season and embrace pops of color in a chunky necklace, bright top, colored jean or leather bag, it will make your outfit and day that much happier!

Inspirations:

A few weeks ago I got to go to a Pretty Lights concert in Philly.
It was a night full of color, dancing & fun.

Goal: Do the Color Run

Happy Holidays & Happy Shopping!

 Travel safe this week!
